Prevention is the single most important practice for visual health care. Visit your ophthalmologist once a year. If you have been diagnosed with uveitis, the treatment recommended by your ophthalmologist is the best alternative to take care of your eye health. However, some measures you could take to better cope with the symptoms of uveitis are:

1. Wear sunglasses and/or a hat when exposed to sunlight. Never look directly at the sun.

2. Avoid wearing contact lenses.

3. Take the necessary precautions to take care of your eyes when performing activities that could hurt your eyes. Examples: use protective goggles while gardening, playing sports, high-risk work or lighting fireworks during the holidays.

4. Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes.

5. Eat a balanced diet and exercise according to your physical fitness. Incorporate adequate

portions of fruits and vegetables as they are rich in antioxidants and carotenoids.

6. Get plenty of sleep and try to decrease stress levels on a daily basis, as this can aggravate

autoimmune inflammatory responses.

7. Do not try to strain your eyes because it could compromise your vision. Instead, when you feel you can't see very well, close your eyes and rest for as long as you feel necessary.

8. Do not smoke. If you already do, try to progressively reduce the number of cigarettes you if you smoke.

9. Rest your vision properly and develop any personal measures that you believe allow you to lead a better lifestyle according to your ocular condition.

10. Visit your ophthalmologist periodically, and follow all their recommendations.

Symptoms of recurrent and/or chronic uveitis often appear unexpectedly and vision changes fluctuate greatly during the progression of uveitis. The uveitis may even reactivate even when you are undergoing treatment. If this is the case, talk to your doctors to explore different treatment options available to you.
